About Ben Sprague
Ben was born and raised in Bangor and graduated from Bangor High School in 2002. After graduating from Harvard University in 2006, Ben worked for the Boston Red Sox for three years and also taught adult education. Ben returned to Bangor in 2011 and today works as a small business lender for Maine-based First National Bank. Ben and his wife, Malorie, are proud to be raising their two kids, William, age 3, and Abby, age 2, in Bangor.
Ben was first elected to the Bangor City Council in 2011 and re-elected in 2014. Ben was chosen unanimously by his colleagues to serve as the Council Chair in 2013-2014. Ben also serves on the boards of Good Shepherd Food Bank, the Bangor YMCA, and Eastern Maine Medical Center. He is the creator and Race Director for Erin's Run, an annual road race on the Bangor Waterfront that has raised over $50,000 for Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance and other local charities since its inception in 2013.
Ben is a member of the Bangor Rotary Club and All Souls Congregational Church. He ran the Boston Marathon in 2007 and 2008 and the Sugarloaf Marathon in 2017. He was awarded the Catherine Leibowitz Award for Public Service by the Greater Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce in 2015 and the FUSION:Bangor Leadership & Vision Award in 2013 and is the host of a weekly interview-based podcast called "The Maine Show." His favorite things about Bangor are the people, the clean air and water, the neighborhood parks, and the school system.
